May 2010

May was almost over before I remembered to take some photos of my walks to work!
The Bluebells have almost faded and have been covered by a mass of green Cleavers, that I remember my Mum calling Sweetheart, as it clings to you.
This month's star has to be the Hawthorn Blossom, known as May Blossom.
This beautiful pink May Blossom is just behind my back garden.
A favourite of mine is the Cow Parsley. I love to pick it for flower arrangements. This also has many other names, but I grew up to know it as Cow Parsley.
This beautifully seeded grass, called Wood Melick, is spreading throughout the copse.
The delicate Wood Avens is in flower. It is a member of the Geum family.
We have also been foraging for Wild Garlic this month, just slightly north of our village. The Wild Mustard is prevalent at the moment, but I find that too bitter for my taste.

May in the Garden

Sorry that I have been rather absent this month, but I have been enjoying the lovely, hot weather that we have been experiencing and I've been busy in my garden and greenhouse.
My greenhouse is full to the brim at the moment, with plants waiting to go to our allotment once we are back from a planned trip in the near future. A friend waters our garden and greenhouse whilst we are away, so the plants will survive better in their pots at home.
The cats have kept me company in the garden. Ella has discovered the joys of catmint!
On Sunday we visited RHS Wisley
to see the azaleas and rhododendrons in bloom.

My husband hiding in the bamboo!

We walked through the orchards.

It was hot enough for ice creams, instead of our usual tea and cake.

The display of Purple Sensation Alliums outside of the glasshouse was stunning and I loved the alpines in the smaller glasshouses.
The colours of the blooms zinged in the bright sunlight.

At the end of the afternoon we walked through the Battleston Hill part of the garden.
The Handkerchief Tree was in flower and the Chinese Mahogany/Cedar looked beautiful clothed in pink.

18th Birthday

Happy 18th Birthday Darling Daughter.
We went out to lunch, at The Mill House, with both sets of Grandparents.

My Husband and Mum back at home in the afternoon.

Time to blow out the candles.
