We've been loving this hot, sunny weather! I'm old enough to remember the summer of 1976, but this is the first hot, dry summer I can remember as an adult. The garden and allotments have been struggling, but it has been wonderful to go out and enjoy the countryside in real summer weather!
At the beginning of July we spent a couple of nights near Glastonbury in an Airbnb.
We had a delicious lunch at Hundred Monkeys Cafe, then walked around the abbey ruins.
Our days away also ticked off some more of our Thirty in Thirty.
#22 of Thirty in Thirty - Glastonbury Abbey
We were greeted by our hosts with a cream tea upon arrival at the Airbnb, which was on a small farm,
complete with very friendly animals, some of whom invited themselves in
and others that coveted our supper! :)
That evening we climbed to the top of Glastonbury Tor and watched the sun set as #23 of Thirty in Thirty.
The next day we drove to Watchet on the coast to go fossil hunting - #24 of Thirty in Thirty
It was such glorious weather, that we decided to go up to the Tor again that evening.
Places you can knit! :)
On our final day we visited Wells, before travelling home.
We paused for coffee and a cathedral bun, before going inside the magnificent cathedral - #25 of Thirty in Thirty.
We stopped off at a couple of places of interest en route home. The first was Wilton, of carpet fame, to look at the Romanesque church.
Its interior has been decorated in mosaics by one lady.
We were intrigued by the very unusual lion in the Royal Arms.
Our next stop was at Danebury Hill Fort, the site of an Iron Age settlement, #26 of Thirty in Thirty.
A herd of Exmoor ponies graze the surrounding land.
