Early June we had a week's holiday in the Peak District and ticked off a few more of our Thirty in Thirty.
10 of Thirty in Thirty was a trip to Bakewell on the first day of our holiday, en route to our Airbnb cottage.
The traditional Bakewell pudding.
After a walk around the town, it was time to head to our accommodation. The scenery was beautiful.
It was only a short drive to the cottage and we were warmly welcomed by our hostess with wine and cake!
The cottage was very comfortable with stunning views.
After settling in and having some tea and cake we went for an evening walk locally as #11 of Thirty in Thirty. The views and the wild flowers!!
I found a friend! :)
Back for supper outside as the sun set.
Not a bad way to end our first day!
Day 2 we headed to Blue John Cavern, #12 on our Thirty in Thirty. This area is the only known place in the world where the semi precious stone blue john is found.
The cloud cover was low and atmospheric over the hills.
There were quite a few steps down into the cavern, which is no longer mined.
I find it fascinating to see how water has sculpted and continues to form these caverns.
The blue john.
There were lots of fossils in the rocks.
Afterwards we headed to nearby Buxton as #13 in Thirty in Thirty and to "take the waters"!
St Anne's Well where we were pleasantly surprised at the pure taste of the tepid, spring water.
Late afternoon, once it was cooler, we headed to the Roaches for a walk to Lud's Church, #14 of Thirty in Thirty.
We started up high and headed down.
On the long climb up, we found a rocky outcrop for a spectacular view.
Then we found Lud's Church, a chasm full of legend.
