Norfolk in August

August began with a trip to Norfolk to see my family.  On the way we stopped at Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire for a walk.

Inside a traditional Fenland cottage.

It was a hot walk around the fen & fields.

Whilst in Norfolk we visited a few places, including Norwich, on the hunt for dinosaurs!

This is a charity sculpture trail which we followed.

We went for a walk along by the river Wensum that runs through the city.

Another day we stopped for a picnic near a thatched church.

A detour to Great Yarmouth for a spot of geocaching and of course a visit to a needlework shop.

It was still a heatwave, so we decided to go the the coast at Horsey.

The swallows were in residence at Horsey Windpump.

It was a hot and dusty walk across the field to the beach,

which was somewhat crowded by seals, not humans! :)

Further along, we had the beach all to ourselves for the afternoon.

Blickling Hall
First we walked around the estate.

Then we headed to the hall, which is steeped in history.

All too soon it was time to head home.  On our way we took a detour to Ashridge Estate, where we climbed up the 172 steps of the Bridgewater Monument for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
