Day Trips and Workshops

Early September we visited RHS Wisley for the Autumn Flower Show.

There were some beautiful displays

and we came home with too many ideas! :)

It was a sunny day, so we enjoyed exploring the garden

and admiring the sculptures.

The next weekend I attended a natural dyeing workshop at Plaw Hatch Farm, a biodynamic farm in Sussex.

We were met by Deborah who was running the workshop and shown the flower bed where the dye plants where growing.

We then rambled through the fields, foraging for blackberries, to the barn where the workshop was being held.

We were given yarn produced on the farm and learnt how to dye it with plant material from the dye garden and the wild.

Blackberries and Elderberries

The end results.

It was such a beautiful day!

On the Sunday we headed to the coast.  It was one of the last hot days of the season; I managed to burn the tops of my feet as I walked along the water's edge!

A perfect day to relax beside the sea at Bracklesham Bay.

The sea defences are worn into interesting shapes.

We had a picnic.

Did some beachcombing.

I was just waiting for him to fall in! ;)

Poor jellyfish!

The sun was setting as we drove home.

Out again the following weekend, this time to Daylesford Farm for the Autumn Festival and Country Brocante.

At the Country Brocante,

I attended an Autumn Flowers Embroidery Workshop by Caroline Zoob.
This is Caroline's sample.

Our final day out in September (you could be forgiven for thinking we are never at home!), was a quick shopping trip to Winchester.
King Alfred

We also happened across this archaeological site, which we hadn't seen before.

Time for some lunch and shopping, then back home again.
