A Few Days in Dorset

Late May, S and I took a short holiday in Dorset.

Day 1 - We followed in the footsteps of Thomas Hardy by visiting two of his homes.

Then we continued our journey to West Bay, where we were staying in an apartment.

Day 2 - Walking the Holloways

Holloways are ancient, sunken paths through the Dorset countryside.  Hell Lane & Shute Late are well known and travellers have carved their art into the soft sandstone.

Shute Lane, the end of our walk.

Day 3 - Fossil Hunting at Charmouth Beach

Followed by a sunset walk back at West Bay.

Day 4 - Black Ven & Lyme Regis
Black Ven
Our first stop was at the Black Vet, just a little further along the coast from Charmouth.  We were fossil hunting again.

Then we moved along to Lyme Regis.

Day 5 - Hambleton Hill and Shaftesbury

Time to head home, with a couple of stops along the way.
Hambleton Hill, near Child Okeford, is the site of an Iron age hillfort.  It was a very steep climb to the top for breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

Shaftesbury
Our final stop of the holiday was to see Gold Hill at Shaftesbury.

At the top of the hill is a museum with lots of history of the area and interesting needlework.
