Huskies and Reindeer

My third and final post about our trip to Finland is all about the animals we met.
We had arranged to go husky sledding one morning.  We were given instructions on how to drive the team and sled, before being introduced to the dogs.
They were very excitable and couldn't wait to set off.

We took turns to drive and it was really enjoyable.

Afterwards we had hot berry juice and forest biscuits by the fire.
The snow was so lovely and soft and powdery, that I couldn't resist making a snow angel! :)
That afternoon we took the cable car up the fell to the museum where as well as admiring the view, we could feed the reindeers, which was such a joy.

That evening we had a trip to visit the ice hotel at Kallo.  It was very magical, but I don't think I would have liked to stay the night.

We finished the evening with vodka shots in glasses made of ice.
Our last trip was a snow mobile drive to a reindeer farm where we were going to had a sleigh ride.

As we drove through the freshly fallen snow we took in the amazing landscape around us.

Arriving at the farm,
we first fed the reindeers.

Then it was time for our sleigh ride.

All too soon it was time to say goodbye to the reindeers
and too head back to the hotel.

The next morning it was time to leave Lapland.

We had had a wonderful time in Levi,

full of memories to treasure.

Into the Wilderness

Our first trip out to see more of Lapland was a snow mobile drive into the wilderness on the first afternoon.  We drove across frozen lakes and through beautiful forests.

Stopping on one frozen lake to admire the view
with the sun setting over the horizon.
It was an exhilarating ride through a breathtaking landscape.

We didn't know when we set off, but our destination was the summit of Levi Fell, where we were treated to more stunning views.

We crossed the ski runs
and stopped near the top of the fell for some hot berry juice and to take in the scenery.

Time to head back to the hotel.
