Festival of Quilts

Early August I set off for the NEC at Birmingham to meet up with my lovely friend Nicola of @bumblestitches to see The Festival of Quilts.

It was the first time either of us had been to this quilt show and we were amazed and slightly overwhelmed by the amount of quilts on display.  We felt that two days were needed to really take in all the amazing work by the quilt artists.  These are just a few of the quilts that caught my eye.

Fragile Fragments

Pure Velvet by Amy Pubst
All of the quilts displayed in this section were made of incredibly small pieces of material.
Artist Statement"Each 1.5 block in this quilt has 49 pieces for a total of 21,609 pieces. The quilt was foundation pieced on a 1947 Singer Featherweight and then quilted in the ditch on a BERNINA. There are silks, silk blends, polyesters, velvets, linen blends, and cottons in this quilt."

We continued to wander around the show admiring the many quilts and looking at the stands full of lovely fabric.

By this point I was feeling slightly overwhelmed by the stunning quilts and started taking less photos.  Next time it might be a good idea to go for two days.
