Days 103 to 106

My next 365 photos are all on the theme of spring as suddenly the weather has warmed up, sometimes to 16'C and we have been having typical April sunshine and showers.

Day 103 of 365
I picked the first of this season's rhubarb from our old allotment.  Half of it I used to make Sarah Raven's Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake from her Garden Cookbook.  It was delicious - even Jay liked it and he isn't too keen on rhubarb.  Of course it was served with lashings of hot custard as my Husband is mad for the stuff!  The other half I stewed with a little brown sugar and the flesh of the orange I zested for the above recipe.  It made another dessert when accompanied with some plain yogurt.
Day 104 of 365
Sunday was another lovely day and I spent time in the garden and greenhouse.  The warmer weather is encouraging the seeds to germinate and lots that I planted last week are already poking through the compost and the garden is starting to look pretty with the hyacinths and daffodils in bloom.

Day 105 of 365

Back to work after the Easter holidays.  There swathes of primroses growing on the school playing field.  A little Bee-Fly was also enjoying the flowers.  Primroses can be found throughout the village at this time.
Day 106 of 365
Yesterday I noticed that my neighbour had put up this flag - maybe ready for St George's Day next week.  Blue-tits are nesting in his bird box again this year.  At the weekend a Nuthatch was trying to break into it!

I'm so glad that spring is finally here and that the days are getting longer!

Isn't it good to finally feel a bit of warmth in the air. I don't think spring has ever been more eagerly awaited as it has this year ...
